We saw your sign, screeched the brakes, turned in and here we are! This is a familiar phrase of travelers coming into Brenda’s Quilt Stop & More. The shop is located along Highway 54 between El Dorado Springs and Collins, Missouri next to Arrowhead Point R.V. Park and Campground. The spacious parking lot coincides with the entry of the R.V. park making an easy second access to pull through for large vehicles such as R.V.’s, trailers and buses that are always welcomed.
While most visitors are quite shocked to be driving along and all of a sudden find a quilt shop, they are just as pleasantly surprised to find a nice assortment of quality quilting fabrics at reasonable prices. Brenda’s also has finished quilts, a good selection of Eleanor Burns’ pattern books, quilting notions, fat quarters, 108" backing fabrics and more. You can even find some craft supplies and unique Peculiar Country handcrafted gift items.
Brenda Carney, owner and operator, opened the business in October 2005 and says, "It is fun to see some of the first customers that only travel through once a year or so and they are quite impressed with the growth in our shop and now make a stop as part of their travel plans." The shop also offers machine quilting. Brenda’s husband, Dan, is the operator of the quilting machine and does impressive work.
Brenda’s Quilt Stop & More is always busy with classes and clubs. On Table Runner Tuesday you can make a seasonal table runner which is a great beginner class and has flexibility as you can pick your time to come out and work on that month’s project up to seven o’clock. The second Saturday of each month is a Block Party that runs from January through December. On the third Monday they are open until ten o’clock for the UFO Club which is available to anyone needing a little quality time to use the classroom to work on those unfinished objects. Every other month starting in January on the fourth Friday and the following Saturday, a new Strip Club quilt is unveiled. Strip Club kits and the classroom are then available to get started.
Yearly events include a Spring Fling the fourth weekend in March, Peculiar Country Pumpkin Festival the second Saturday in October, and a Holiday Open House the third weekend in November.
